USS New York – Made from the steel of the World Trade Center

Uss new york
This picture is of the USS San Antonio, but the New York looks just like it.

USS New York

It was built with 24 tons of scrap steel from the World Trade Center.

It is the fifth in a new class of warship – designed for missions that include special operations against terrorists. It will carry a crew of 360 sailors and 700 combat-ready Marines to be delivered ashore by helicopters and assault craft.

Steel from the World Trade Center was melted down in a foundry in Amite , LA to cast the ship’s bow section. When it was poured into the molds on Sept 9, 2003, “those big rough steelworkers treated it with total reverence,” recal led Navy C apt. Kevin Wensing, who was there. “It was a spiritual moment for everybody there.”

Junior Chavers, foundry operations manager, said that when the trade center st eel first arrived, he
touched it with his hand and the “hair on my neck stood up.” “It had a big meaning to it for all of us,” he said. “They knocked us down.  They can’t keep us down. We’re going to be back.”

The ship’s motto? “Never Forget”

Thanks Max

I’m probably alone on it…but that somehow seems distasteful to me.

No Derek, you’re not alone. Using the scrap metal to build a hospital, school, or prosthetic limbs for children in war zones would have been in good taste; using the scrap to build a military vessel is just more of the same ignorant jingoism that’s destroying The Land of The Free.

Defending freedom always seems distasteful to leftist parasites who have never had to sacrifice for anything. Your entire life, everything you take for granted, has been made possible by the sacrifice of others.

Here’s the good news, we leave the door wide open. Why not move to Cuba, North Korea or Venezuela and live your principles?

… let us hope we never forget 911…

Snopes says that is actually a picture of the U.S.S. San Antonio (look at the BOTTOM of this page — http://www.snopes.com/photos/military/ussnewyork.asp)

  • Mike, if you had read the entire post you would have known that. Look directly under the picture where I state that the picture is the USS San Antonio.

What is distasteful is the killing of thousands of human beings – murder without remorse by flying a two jumbo jets into the WTC. There is nothing more distasteful and disgusting – nothing can even compare.

Thank you for posting the photo and detail.
